Inaugural, Sister Cath Duxbury Award

 

Each year, in Armidale, the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (New England Group) and the Australian College of Education (New England Group) come together to present their Annual Awards. This year on 28th October (World Teacher’s Day) the combined awards ceremony included two newly created awards: The Sister Cath Duxbury Award and the Cynthia Briggs Award.

DETAILS OF THE AWARDS 2016

The Inaugural Sister Cath Duxbury Award honouring the life and work of Sister Cath Duxbury awarded to an “Outstanding Emerging Educational Leader” was presented to David Partridge - Head Teacher, HSIE, Duval High School Armidale.

The Inaugural Cynthia Briggs Award: “Empowerment through Education” recognising an educational collaboration ensuring a more sustainable and self-determining future, was presented to Assoc. UNE Professor Bob Boughton, for an Aboriginal Adult Literacy Campaign and to Ursula Kim director of Minimbah Preschool.

This is this first time the groups in New England have named any award after a woman, an Aboriginal woman or a Religious woman!

These new awards were added to the list of four other awards presented each year as follows:

  • William Walker Award: presented to professional educators for outstanding leadership … (Cath Duxbury was a recipient of this award in 2002)
  • Allan Kerr Memorial Award: presented to teachers- for excellent classroom teaching and contribution to school life and reputation.
  • J A Sutherland Award: presented to professional educators for significant contrition to education.
  • H. T. B. Harris Award: presented to a school or community organisation for a significant program … leading to fulfilment of an educational need.
