St Elizabeth Home - A Journey of 50 Years

Sr KlotildOn Sunday 5th March St. Elizabeth Home, Dean Park celebrated its 50 years of life. Our dear Ursuline Sister Klotild Horvath osu and Fr. Forro sj were acknowledged as the         co-founders of this Aged Care Facility. Its humble beginnings were recalled as were the generous efforts of the growing Hungarian immigrant community over 50 years ago.

Many of those present and now serving in leadership and administration of the Aged Care Facility were only children at the time of the founding of St. Elizabeth Home. Some were not even born. One such person is the Mayor of Blacktown— Mr Stephen Bali. He spoke after the Liturgy with great fondness for St. Elizabeth Home, noting the good care it provides for all its residents. In addition it provides a cultural gathering place for the Hungarian people.

Ursuline Sisters Colleen Foley and Patty Andrew were present at the gathering. They enjoyed the whole afternoon which was filled with memory, thanksgiving and celebration. Following the Liturgy, in conjunction with afternoon tea, there was a “picture show!” This featured an array of photos which along with many members of the Hungarian community, included many Ursulines who had visited Sr Klotild and Sr Perpetua over the years at St. Elizabeth Home.

It was evident to us that those who are currently involved with St. Elizabeth Home including their chaplain, Fr. Denes Ledeczi appreciate and value the cultural inheritance here in Australia which St. Elizabeth Home has gifted to them.

For us as Ursulines knowing closely the story of the hard work of Sisters Klotild, Gregoria and Perpetua, it was good to see their work unfolding in ways they may never have imagined.
