World Day of Prayer - 1st March 2019

Slovenia 2019“Come-Everything is Ready” Luke 14:15-24

Celebrated annually on the first Friday in March, World Day of Prayer is supported by the following churches and Christian organisations: Anglican, Australian Christian Churches, Australian Church Women, Baptist, Bible Society, Catholic, Churches of Christ, Lutheran, One Life Family, Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist, the Salvation Army, Uniting, WCTU Drug-free lifestyle.

Each year people gather in Inter-Faith groups to pray for a particular county in the world. The country chosen for 2019 is Slovenia. The place of prayer is rotated between the different Christian Churches.

Slovenia is located in Central Europe and is one of the smallest countries in that region. Having two million inhabitants with Slovene as the official language and Hungarian and Italian being co-official languages. The land area of Solvenia is small - only 20,273 square kilometres (which is less than 1/3 of the size of Tasmania). It has only 43 kilometres of coastline and is famous for its mountains and natural forests.

Prayers are prayed, stories are shared, and the Scripture is proclaimed. Each year a specific focus is set for the World Day of Prayer and the focus for 2019 is taken from the Scripture used in the Prayer Service. This year of course is the table is prepared and all are invited -“Come- Everything is Ready.”

One of the prayers prayed this year sums up the essence of this focus “Welcoming God, in your love you have prepared a table for all. You inspire us to open our hearts and our homes to offer places to those who are not yet at the table.”
