Ursuline Conference 2018

The Austalian Ursulines gathered for their annual Conference from 29th June to 1st July at St Josephs Spirituality Centre, Baulkham Hills. The theme this year; "A Global Community Moving Into New Life"

They were joined by a number of guests with whom they have worked and companioned over the years.

On Friday evening Sr Ruth Durick welcomed all participants who had gathered for our Ursuline Conference. Her welcome was followed by an Acknowledgement to Country by a group of young dancers from CBHS Lewisham.

Fr John Prior SVD led the sessions on Saturday and Sunday morning, giving an overview of the concept and practice of Mission.  Father sees us at a turning point regarding Mission and challenged us to address change with bold and energetic reform in attitude and direction. He encouraged us to come to a deep understanding of differences - not focussing on what separates us but rather putting our strength towards an understanding and acceptance of the challenges they provide.

Lana Turvey-Collins in her capacity as the Facilitator of the Plenary Council 2020 joined us on Saturday afternoon.  During this time we were invited to engage in the process of facilitating listening groups responding to the question; "What is God asking of us in Australia at this time?"

Lana encouraged us to approach the listening groups with open minds and hearts in following through what we hear. It was emphasised that the agenda for the pastoral council will be created from our stories.  This is a process for borders to be crossed.

The conference provided space, inspiration and challenge. Participants left ready to put their experience into action.  One woman left saying "I feel courageous!".
